When Disaster Strikes, Help is on the Way

The Animal Rescue Team (ART) is an official auxiliary under the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Search & Rescue Division.

Formed to address the needs of animals during disasters, the team comprises the Nevada Humane Society, all of the animal control agencies and private individuals trained in livestock and exotic animal handling.

Team members receive specialized training in the Incident Command System, wildfire response, hazardous materials, pet first aid and animal handling and trailering livestock.

If you are interested in helping those who can’t speak for themselves, please contact Field Services Officer Jeff Engle at 775-856-2000, ext 330.

Application is made through WCSO, Search & Rescue and individuals must undergo a background check.
