Foster Care Support

Service Identification | Reports to the Volunteer Coordinator and Foster Care Manager.

Goals of this position | Undergoing additional training on animal fostering care. Helping enhance and maintain the physical and mental health of the baby animals becuase kennel environment can be detrimental to a young animal’s development. This is accomplished by keeping the animals for a set period and treating the animal as part of the family. Potentially house training the animal and helping the animals acquire desirable traits.

Responsibilities | The duties include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Taking and keeping the animal in your home for a set period of time.
  2. Waking up at odd hours to feed, comfort and/or take them outside to relieve themselves.
  3. Exercising and socializing with the animal to get them more comfortable with people and other animals.

There are no financial responsibilities associated with foster care. Food and other supplies will be provided.

Restrictions | A Foster Caretaker is restricted from the following:

  1. Giving animal or medical advice to or helping customers, including adoption counseling.
  2. Adopting your foster care animals.
  3. Entering unauthorized areas without permission.
  4. Feeding animals on site or giving treats without permission.
  5. Handling cleaning supplies, treatments or lotions.
  6. Working with wildlife or livestock.
  7. Adopting a pet within the first 3 months of service.
  8. No one may volunteer unless they have attended both orientations, therefore a volunteer may not bring any guests while they are volunteering for NHS.
